What is DoDAF? – What You Need to Know

The DoDAF Forum is a web community dedicated to the DoD Architecture Frameworks and their related technologies.

It is the framework which changes with each new technology and not just the picture within the frame. — Marshall McLuhan

What is DoDAF? The Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) is the industry-standard Enterprise Architecture Framework for defense and aerospace applications defined by the US Department of Defense (DoD). DoDAF defines how to organize the specification of enterprise architectures for U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) applications. All major DoD weapons and information technology system procurements are required to document their enterprise architectures using the view products prescribed by the DoDAF. For a fuller explanation explore What is DoDAF?, What is UPDM?, and other Frequently Asked Questions on the DoDAF FAQ page.
Why use DoDAF? As the enterprise architecture framework of choice for defense/aerospace applications, DoDAF is a key enabling technology for organizing and sharing large, complex system architectures for distributed Systems-of-Systems (cf. Network Centric Operational Warfare architectures). DoDAF-compliant architectures can help System Architects, Systems Engineers, Software Developers, and others who seek to transition from traditional systems development processes that are document-based and code-centric, to Model-Based Engineering processes that are requirements-driven and architecture-centric. For more information about the advantages of a Enterprise Architecture Framework or a Model-Based Engineering development approach, check out the Architecture Framework Forum and the Model-Based Engineering Forum.

Here you can find information related to DoDAF and its numerous variants (MODAF, NAF, DNDAF...), as well as related topics such as DoDAF Tools, DoDAF Training, DoDAF Publications, and DoDAF Specifications.
